Starr and Company, Inc. was formed in 1976 and has been engaged in the sales and service of
Industrial and Commercial equipment in Hawaii and the Pacific Basin since it's founding.
Specializing in air compressors, boilers, heaters, cranes/hoists, pumps and appurtenant
equipment and supplies, we operate out of a centrally located, 10,000 square foot facility
in the Honolulu airport commercial district. We employ 15 people; 4 sales, 9 service technicians
and 2 clerical. We maintain a large, local inventory to assure our customers have the parts and
service when they need it. Starr and Company, Inc. pursues all market sectors: Industrial,
Commercial, Military, Municipal, and Construction.
Our sales department is comprised of four individuals with extensive engineering backgrounds in
the fields our equipment is used. Collectively, the sales department has over 95 years of
experience in the application of industrial equipment. The sales department is capable of, or
assisting with, selecting and applying the necessary equipment, complete with installation drawings
and assistance with permits, to meet your requirements.
Starr and Company, Inc.'s reputation in Hawaii is impeccable. Our philosophy is to provide high
quality equipment and the highest level of customer service possible, earning a customer's return
business. Operating successfully for nearly three decades in a relatively small marketplace is
indicative of Starr's ability to provide customer satisfaction.
Staff
James Starr, President: James has been with Starr and Company since its inception in 1976. Starting in the sales department, moving up through vice president and now president, James has been part of Starr and Company's growth and success. James background in plant engineering, marketing and management makes him well versed to lead Starr and Company into the future
Dan Jazdzyk, Sales Engineer: Dan has been with Starr since 1997 and has a BSME degree from Worchester Polytechnic Institute with a background in construction and automotive engineering. Dan has been certified by Compressed Air Challenge, a joint effort by the Compressed Air and Gas Institute and the US Department of Energy, as a compressed air plant air survey engineer.
Jan Wonso, Sales Engineer: Jan has been with Starr since 1991 and has a BSME from Purdue University. Jan has considerable engineering experience, most of which has been in the marketing and application of current technology and equipment. Jan has been factory trained in bridge crane construction and hoist/trolley technology application.
Jim Griffin, Service Manager: Jim has been with Starr since 1990, is a past USNS Machinist Mate and has a degree in Welding Technology. Jim also holds a certificate from NBBI for boiler and pressure vessel weld repair and code compliance. Jim is well versed in the maintenance and repair of valves, pumps, pump systems, air compressors, compressed air systems, vacuum pumps and systems, boilers and steam systems.
Tom Gimber, Inside Sales/Parts: Tom joined Starr in 2006 with a background with the US Navy as an electrician. Following the Navy Tom has twelve years as a technician in the civilian steam boiler and marine industries. As a past technician, Tom brings field experience in assisting customers to identify parts required.
Darin Nakagawa, Sales Engineer: Darin joined Starr in 2009 and has a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Washington and a MS in Materials Engineering from UC San Diego. Darin has previous experience with Pearl Harbor Shipyard in various material and welding engineering capacities.
Joanne Taufa, Office Manager: Joanne joined Starr in 2006 with a background that includes more than 15 years in retail security at both supervisory and management levels and office management experience including full charge bookkeeping. She brings a unique understanding of both the sales/service industry and customer relations. Joanne manages the front office and accounting functions as Starr.
